A Commitment to Community and Humanitarian Service
Founded in 1955, the Elmhurst Rotary Club is an organization of men and women who are committed to Doing Good in the World through community and humanitarian service and have the extraordinary capacity to change lives locally and globally.
The club supports a diverse range of philanthropic programs and institutions, including District 205 schools, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, the Elmhurst Library, Park District and YMCA and Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry as well as other local charities and organizations.
We have also been major contributor to ShelterBox, a Rotary international disaster relief organization that provides shelter, warmth and dignity to victims of natural and man-made disasters.
We raise funds for our charitable work with raffles, special events and donations from our members and the community.
We welcome you to discover how you can make difference in your community and the world. Please contact email@example.com to schedule a visit or become a member
Service Above Self Award
The Elmhurst Rotary Club has awarded the $16,000.00 Service Above Self Scholarship to Abigail Pettineo, a graduating senior from York High School. Abigail focused her years at York helping others through volunteering, service projects, and community-based initiatives. Among her several 'service above self' efforts, as co-president of Key Club, a student service organization at York, Abigail started the first annual Pajama Program drive. She lead this effort to bring together 10 clubs, departments and sports teams to collect over 300 pairs of new pajamas for children in the foster care system.
According to Elmhurst Rotary's Dan Kunesh, the Club's Scholarship Committee Chairperson, Abigail is preparing to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago on a pre-medicine track with the goal of becoming a pediatrician. Elmhurst Rotary has a long-standing commitment of helping deserving students like Abigail attend college. Since 1955, over 400 students from IC Catholic Prep, Timothy Christian and York Community high schools have received more than $500,000 in scholarships.
Dan says the Club received 12 applications for this year's award. Applications for the 2021 Service Above Self Scholarship will be accepted in December, 2020 via the Club's website, elmhurstrotary.com
COVID Relief Assistance
ELMHURST ROTARY CLUB AND THE UNITED COMMUNITY CONCERNS ASSOCIATION (UCCA) TEAM UP TO PROVIDE FOOD ASSISTANCE TO ELMHURST DISTRICT 205 NEIGHBORS IN NEED DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
Through a grant given by the Rotary Foundation (District 6450) to help families affected by the covid-19 pandemic, the Elmhurst Rotary Club and the UCCA provided and distributed food (dairy, meat, produce, etc...) to nearly 250 local families on Thursday, June 18, 2020.
The Rotary Foundation provided the funds to pay for the food and use of the Mobile Food Pantry trucks while the UCCA arranged for securing the food, typically from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Elmhurst veteran Rotarians, Joyce Sloan, Marily Boria and husband Phil were on hand to help distribute the food to the families who arrived by car to pick up the groceries. According to Joyce and Marilyn, the event was well organized with plenty of experienced volunteers on hand who loaded boxes of groceries including meat, dairy, boxed and canned goods, potatoes, onions and milk directly into the waiting cars of grateful families.
Hunger hides in every community. Rotary Clubs support programs to provide healthy food and develop sustainable solutions to food insecurity. Fighting hunger to build stronger communities - that's what people of action do. Rotary: People of Action
